About the Public Authority

The Public Authority was established in 2003 by the Nevada County Board of Supervisors.  In 2003, Nevada and Sierra Counties entered into a joint powers agreement for the purpose of establishing and designating a bi-county Public Authority as the employer of record for the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Providers and to provide the services as required by IHSS law.  At the same time, Plumas County began a contract to have the Public Authority provide services to their county as well.  The Nevada-Sierra Regional IHSS Public Authority came into being and is the only Public Authority to have this unique inter-county cooperative relationships with a Consumer-controlled Governing Board.

Public Authority Services
IHSS Public Authority keeps a Registry of Providers who offer personal assistance and domestic services to persons 65 or older and persons with disabilities who meet eligibility requirements for the IHSS program.  Duties may include personal assistance with dressing and bathing as well as household tasks.
